Otalku Cafe - Bleach: TYBW

Many great anime I was watching during Fall 2024 have carried over into 2025, so those will be reviewed later. As such, my penultimate review of the season is a show that always ranks high among the anime universe, cour 3 of Bleach - Thousand Year Blood War. Cour 3 picks up where cour 2 leaves off with Ichigo, his friends, and all of the soul society continuing to battle Yhwach and the quincy army, mostly in the soul king’s realm.

As usual, the animation and musical composition are top notch, among the best of the entire year. However, the plot for this cour was very blah, with a predictable, but drab end. And as in cour 2, an even shittier end to the cour in the finale. The plot continues to one up each battle, except instead of the one upmanship being for incredible revelations, it’s for pulling the absolute, most insane powerups completely from thin air and the villains continuing to stay alive when they should all be dead ages ago. At first, it was an amazing thing to watch, but as it continued to get more and more preposterous, the amazement has faded. It’s still entertaining, but more because the cour was quite comical versus amazing.

That said, the show still produced plenty of awesome moments and battles as expected. And the continuous cameos and drawing help from unexpected past characters is always welcome and exciting. In all, I still enjoyed the anime, but not quite as I have in the past. Cour 4 is announced and I very much look forward to that airing. I gave cour 3 a flat 4 out of 5 stars, and the show is available on hulu for all to watch!
