Otalku Cafe - Chain Soldier

Otalku Cafe - Chain Soldier

Hey everyone, this is Ethan from Otalku Cafe and I'll be posting anime reviews from 2024 into 2025 of every anime I've watched! Quick disclaimer, these are my personal opinions on each of the shows that I watch.

The second review is the first of two ecchi anime I watched during the season, and it was a late edition to my season, having binged the first 8 episodes about 3/4th of the way though the season, and that is Chained Soldier, available as a HiDive exclusive. The show focuses on a world where monsters, named Shuuki can invade the real world and exist in an alternate dimension called Mato. In this world, only women can fight these monsters, while men are relegated to menial jobs.

The story focuses on a young man named Yuuki, who’s always wanted to be a hero, due to losing his sister during a monster invasion event, called a Mato mishap. One day, he gets caught up in one of these Mato mishaps himself but is saved thanks to the commander of Squad 7 of the women forces, named Kyouka. He helps her and can enhance her abilities, but as a result, becomes a slave to her. The story focuses on how he helps Squad 7 and how he fits in this world as a male hero.

Most ecchi animes focus a lot on the nudity and sexuality to the series and don't focus on plot too much. I am happy to say Chained Soldier does not do that here. The story is consistent, but not bad by any stretch of the imagination, and the story deepens as the series progresses. The other characters besides our MC’s all are consistent and provide unique characteristics that contribute to the story and to the MC’s consistently. It’s enjoyable from start to finish. Nothing earth shattering, but nothing confusing or insulting. The musical composition and animation are solid. Again, not shit, but not earth shattering. But of course, the ecchi certainly ecchi’s in this series. In all, I enjoyed the series for what it was and would consider it among the top ecchi shows I’ve seen. They’ve set the story up well for a season 2 and I’d certainly watch if and when it returns. I give this show, a solid 3/5 stars!
