Otalku Cafe - Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp

The next winter anime I have to review is one of my real surprises of the season, Doctor Elise! The show, a double isekai, follows a girl named Elise who was killed in her first life for being a trash human. She is then reborn in modern times with her past memory and dedicates her life to being a doctor and saving lives, and becomes really amazing at it, until tragedy strikes and she is killed again. However, she is reborn back in her first life, 10 years before she is put to death, again with memories of both lives! She decides she wants to make the most of her first life again and continue being a doctor. And the show follows that journey. 

The story is so refreshing and unique in my opinion. The principle of legitimate injuries and sicknesses being diagnosed and treated is so dope to see. As is Elise’s demeanor throughout as she recalls how awful she was in the past and uses that as fuel for her to be the most amazing woman throughout the series. The fact she has a leg up and already has ample medical knowledge only helps her become a medical genius in her world and that is dope to see. We also get a little bit of a love story as well, which is nice, because the key word is little. It’s not the focal point of the show, which is also refreshing. 

The animation and musical composition is very solid, as well as the use of the side characters in the show, all part of her past and future journey. I really, really loved this show and would give it a very, very strong 3/5 rating. It’s on Crunchyroll and implore you guys to check this one out!
