Otalku Cafe - Metallic Rouge

The penultimate winter review I have to write is one of my biggest disappointments of the season, and that is Metallic Rouge. The anime, available on Crunchyroll, was an original creation of Studio Trigger to celebrate their 25th anniversary.
The story is set in a neo-Tokyo style vibe and traverses multiple planets. Robots equipped with advanced AI, named Neons, live in conjunction with humans, but are treated as lower class. The show follows one special neon, named rouge, as she battles other special neons called the immortal 9, in search of what this purpose entails. She partners alongside a mysterious woman, named Naomi, to do so.
To be frank, with the show over, I never understood the premise or the actual story, and that’s what’s god awful. Story pacing and story delivery shit the bed in this anime. The fact the main characters are women is a plus, and it has incredible animation and an even better musical composition. Couple that with decent fights, and it’s a recipe to be a good anime. But this was not because the story was the drizzling shits and the importance of strongly developing the many side characters was lacking. I found myself often realizing this was an absolute chore to watch for the majority of the season. I gave it a very weak 3/5 smh.
