Otalku Cafe - Ragna Crimson

The next winter anime I have for review is another show that carried over from fall 2023, the action adventure known as Ragna Crimson. The show focuses on a weak dragon hunter named Ragna, who is bestowed incredibly OP powers by his future self during a battle in which he is destined to die. After that battle, he also gets his future self’s memories and meets up with the person who will assist him in killing all of dragon kind, the mysterious Crimson. Together, they take on the current dragon lineage of which, there are 12 members of, similar to the knights of rounds. 

The show is a bit up and down for me. The peaks of the show are absolutely stellar. Awesome fights, very solid storytelling and animation, and a dedication to giving solid backstory to the various range of complimentary characters in the show, besides the immense storytelling of our MC’s. Many moments in the show, the viewer should find themselves in moments of thought as to how the plot is going to develop, or how amazing a battle is done. The fights are definitely this shows strong suit. The musical composition is acceptable as well, so that's not bad.  

My points of contention are the lack of follow up on one particular early member of the show, and that is the companion that dragged Ragna around before he became all powerful. She is left in the dust and essentially fucks off, which isn't very satisfying considering she is part of the whole reason he wants to kill dragon kind. The second point is that at times, the show becomes absolutely preposterous. Almost laughable lol. And sometimes thats great, but I’ve never been a proponent of the preposterous. But all in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the show, available as a HiDive exclusive and would give it a very solid 4/5 rating. Check it out if this is the type of genre that peaks your interest!
