Otalku Cafe - The Dangers In My Heart

Otalku Cafe - The Dangers In My Heart

The last of the 4 romcoms I watched this season. One of the more brilliant examples of a romance anime I’ve seen in such a long while. A show I laugh at myself for almost dropping during season 1. A show that got 4th place in the anime trending awards in 2023 and one that will surely rank just as high in 2024. A show that swept the anime corner weekly rankings 1st place position for all 12 official weeks of winter 2024, and a show I PRAY gets animated for a 3rd season. That show is The Dangers In My Heart.

The show continues the story of our MC’s, Ichikawa and Yamada, as they awkwardly sort out their feelings for each other and deal with the awkward stages of their pubescent lives in middle school. Season 2 was simply marvelous. Hardly any weak moments in the entire run of the season. So many pivotal moments that helped create a masterful build up to the crescendo that was the season finale. Absolutely incredible storytelling of how the most popular and pretty girl in the class uplifts the quietest, most awkward boy in the class, while together, each discover themselves as humans as a result of being in each others lives. The bond they forge through 2 seasons is remarkable and the growth each person undergoes cannot be stated enough. It’s a true story of dramatic buildup to a satisfying romantic conclusion in my eyes.

The animation, as always, is beautiful. And this seasons musical composition manages to be even more fitting than in season 1, which was also really well done. It’s a true shame this show was a HI DIVE exclusive, because this is one of those shows that should be readily available to anyone who is a fan of anime and specifically of the romance genre. I gave this show an easy 5/5 and is unquestionably the romance of the season. PLEASE Check this show out!
