Otalku Cafe - The Witch and the Beast

The final winter 2024 review I have is a show I almost dropped, but was insisted on by my podcast host and contributor to continue on, and that is The Witch and the Beast. The show follows a chain smoking mage named Ashaf, who, alongside his foul mouthed and poor attitude partner, the Demi witch named Guideau, traverse the world and solve magical issues and mysteries, mostly surrounding rouge witches.
This show, available on Crunchyroll, has some of the best animation of the season; crisp, wonderfully flowing, bright, and deep. The musical composition also accompanies the scenes very well. But the real joy is in the story. At first, what turned me off from it was Guideau is a complete bitch and the story felt random. But when star man compared it to magical CSI, it made a lot more sense. And in the end, the show does give you the actual background of the truest plot of the series, which surrounds the curse that binds Guideau to witches. The side story’s are all pretty cool and make sense in the end. And the action is wonderful, full of hard hitting, bloody moments, mixed with some intrigue and drama as well.
In the end, I’m grateful I stuck with this show and very much look forward to season 2, which was set up lovely in the finale. I give this a low 4/5 and would def recommend checking out if supernatural anime is your kind of show!
